What is Ukarimu?

Voices from graduates & partners

Real stories from the people Ukarimu has trained — and the businesses that hired them.

The course was very practical. We learned the basic skills for different roles in tourism. Now I know how to communicate with clients, set a table, open bottles of wine and many more things. Within two weeks after graduation I was employed, so I am very happy that I took this course.

Joseph

Graduate · Karamoja Tourism Academy

This training has changed my dreams, as I am now aiming towards being a head chef. Before this training, I thought I was going to be a waiter forever.

Moses Junior

Graduate · Rwenzori Tourism Academy

I have learnt how to do tourism product development and pricing, and how to present the products on advertising platforms.

Raymond

Graduate · Southwest Tourism Academy

I feel grateful for the opportunity to train with Ukarimu. Many people wanted this opportunity, but I am among the luckiest ones, and I am willing to pass the skills and knowledge I gained from this training on to my fellow workers.

Peter

Graduate · Rwenzori Tourism Academy

I have gained more competence. Ukarimu has given me the chance to work in all hotel departments such as service, kitchen and front office, and most of all to be at the reception. Now I can handle the reception alone.

Patience

Graduate · Southwest Tourism Academy

I would recommend Ukarimu to other lodges because it has taught our people wonders! When our staff came back from the training, they knew that when a client comes, we have to be there, help them carry their things, help them check in and, most importantly, make them feel at home.

Abeine Jean

Assistant Manager · Rwenzori Trekking Services

Ukarimu is a wonderful programme, and I am a beneficiary as well! At Kikorongo, we have had our service people trained. They are part of the group you have just graduated, and the manager tells me there is phenomenal improvement in them.

Nyombi Thembo

Founder · Kikorongo Safari Lodge

Ukarimu comes at the right time to close the training gap the industry faces. Our staff have benefited from being part of the team. Even those who were not in the training benefited, because along the way they interacted with fellow staff, which gave them a chance to understand how things work out there. We really are grateful for Ukarimu!

Charles Kannyango

Executive Director · Birdnest Resort, Lake Bunyonyi

Ukarimu provides short and practical training: this is exactly what the sector needs to overcome the skills gap.

Jeanne Byamugisha

Chief Executive Officer · Uganda Hotel Owners Association

Ukarimu interns were more polished, exposed, confident and interactive. Their level of knowledge across different departments was higher than that of trainees from other institutions.

Faridah Namatovu

Reception and Public Relations Manager · Nyaika Hotel, Fort Portal
